Banff, Canada

December, 2015

1000s pictures and video clips later, here's a small portion of what Banff is like in -30 degree weather in December, 2015.

This trip was a surprise present for my parents, to get away from Toronto and finally visit other Canadian provinces (other than Ontario and the close-by Quebec). We ended up renting the smallest car, not realizing how snowy this area is. On our drive from Calgary airport to Banff, there were about 7-10 cars just stuck on the side of the road, because they slipped on black ice. However, once you enter the mountainous landscape, you stop paying attention to the scary accidents, and focus on the beauty of snowy tree tops shining in the morning sun.

First I just want to say, that -30 is not a pleasant breezy weather for walking, as you can image. I wore 2 layers of pants, and 3 layers of shirts, yet I still couldn't feel my legs after 15 minutes. My phone battery died 5 minutes in, yet my Nikon D600 was a trooper and lasted throughout our walks. We ended up using Viator for snowshoeing day trips, and seeing how we've never done snowshoeing before, that was a nice little experience to see the scenery in a different way.
